After March Madness Win, Moody Tower Cockroach Happy to be Part of Something Bigger than Himself

Our Cougar men’s basketball team’s win on Sunday against Ohio State has all of campus in a state of euphoria. Students are thrilled to see their university represented on the national stage. But the excitement is not just limited to enrolled students. Faculty, staff, and even campus’s lower life forms have shared in the contagious energy.
We spoke to a cockroach on the tenth floor of Moody’s north tower. He graciously took the time to share his “deep emotions” about Sunday night’s game.
“I feel that at UH, school spirit is a scarce commodity. Even after Tilman Fertitta poured obscene amounts of money into a new basketball stadium, attendance remains unimpressive. This lack of community takes a toll on the [human] psyche. At times, I feel like a lonely insect in a world of students, with only discarded Cheetos to keep me going. But now, I can take pride in being a part of something larger than myself.”
UH’s men’s basketball team plays number 2 ranked Kentucky in the “Sweet Sixteen” round of the NCAA tournament this Friday night. Stay tuned to The Paw for updates on Cougar athletics.

  1. Don't agree with this article, each game had a sold-out student section and attendance has been really good this season. The stadium has obviously paid off seeing their success.
